Training Week 9: Back to Reality

August 15, 2021view the post

Last week I was off from work, which meant I had more time for running. It was also a big week for track and field in the Olympics. Talk about inspiring! But all of that had me thinking about what it takes to get to that kind of level of running, and what holds back everyday runners like you and I. What would running be like if we had all the running resources?

This week I was off from work, with no vacation plans. So it was staycation 2021! Rob was off as well, and we had considered keeping Grayson home a few of the days but since he had missed so much time from being sick we sent him on his usual days. This allowed us to get a lot done around the house and do some relaxing as well!

As many of us are returning to racing for the first time in over a year, it may be hard to remember all the things we should and shouldn't do during a race. Good thing I wrote this post back when I was racing more! If you're getting back into racing, make sure you avoid these racing mistakes. They're all pretty common but also avoidable! Here are the top 8 mistakes to avoid at your next race.

I can't believe August is here and July is over! The summer is going by quickly, although some weeks are slower than others. This was another busy and stressful week but now I am off work for a week! I got through another week of training and now we are closing out July.

Navigating the world of postpartum running can be tricky, but also exciting to reach new milestones. One of those milestones may be returning to racing. For many postpartum runners a goal during their first year after giving birth may be to run a half-marathon. What do you need to know in order to successfully train for and run your first postpartum half-marathon?

This was a cutback week, and it was also much cooler out than last week. The lower mileage and lower temps made such a difference with my running! After last week I was feeling like every run was a bit of a struggle so this was a nice confidence booster. I will need to remember this feeling as my mileage and the temps go up again!

Week 5 of marathon training is already complete! My runs are still pretty manageable and my mileage hasn't been much higher than usual. This week was extra fun because it was Runstock 2021! Let's take a look at training week 5 and Runstock 2021.

You don’t know the life of a runnergirl, babe. J You don’t know the life of a runnergirl, babe. Just living that 3:30am alarm clock life and chugging gels like it’s my job. #longrun #marathontraining #lifeofashowgirl
Has to be a quick dance party because I’m alread Has to be a quick dance party because I’m already running late! Why does this album get stuck in my head during all of my runs? #running #marathontraining #lifeofashowgirl
19 miles! 7 on the treadmill, 12 outside, 1,272 to 19 miles! 7 on the treadmill, 12 outside, 1,272 total feet of elevation gain. Amazing weather. Listened to Life of a Showgirl on the treadmill and had some podcasts saved for my outside run but couldn’t get my headphones to connect. This was challenging by the end and I kept thinking how hard it would be if I needed to run another 7 miles today (and all miles at a faster pace) but this is why we train. Feeling like I’m in a good place with 6 weeks to go! How was your run today? #run #marathontraining #longrun
