Last month when I wrote my February review post, I mentioned that I felt like we had cheated winter. HA! We sure did make up for that in March. Colder temps, snow, ice, and rain…we had it all this month. It didn’t interfere too much with my workouts other than the week we got snow that become a nice sheet of ice for a few days.
Month in Review: March 2017
I did get back to running consistently this month, so that was a plus. I also started a daily meditation practice for Lent. I still feel like I have a long way to go with this, but I am happy that I have been consistent.
My workout schedule generally involved 3-4 days of running, 1-2 days of strength training, along with some core work and yoga.
I think I will be revising my goals this month, but here is how I have been doing with my winter goals.
GOALS FOR WINTER
- Short but consistent yoga practices: B+
- Foot strength and balance: C+
- Mobility work/foam rolling: B+
- Longer spinning workouts: A-
- More planks and push-ups: A-
Earlier this month I was not doing yoga at all, but later in the month it sounded good again. As I have said before I definitely go through phases with it. I have also been forgetting to work on the foot strength and balance. I do walk around barefoot at home, but that’s about it.
Everything else has been going ok, but it’s definitely time to change things up! The foot/ankle/shin/whatever it is has been holding up ok, but not well enough to increase my mileage. I am beyond frustrated with it at this point, which is why I try not to talk about it very often!
With blogging I stuck to a 3 day/week schedule which is about all I can handle at this point. I saw more blog growth this month, with hitting by far my highest monthly page views. All thanks to Pinterest.

How did you do with your goals in March?
What will you be working on in April?
Does it still feel like winter where you live?
I’m linking up with Patty, Erika, and Marcia for Tuesdays on the Run!

i go through phases with yoga too! right now I am out of the phase again lol. I think we are finally starting to warm up here but lots of rain in the forecast. I will take the rain over the snow!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
I would take the rain over snow too…and as long as it doesnt rain ALL day long I dont mind it. I keep thinking about last spring when we had 17 straight days of rain.
Marcia says
I sort of knew we’d “pay” for our mild winter and oh yes, we are. I hope you find the answer for your foot/ankle/shin. Ah the mysteries of running and the human body.
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
It’s such a mystery! Who knows, maybe it’s all in my head.
Susie @ Suzlyfe says
I think that the temps are supposed to dip back down, yeah. OVER IT. I finally did some yoga yesterday and boy, I need some work!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
SO over the cold temps! And its always such a struggle to get back to yoga after time away.
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
It’s nice to see you running again, but I feel you about nagging injuries. Fingers crossed for a better month for both of us!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Thanks, I have mine crossed as well!

I do bits & pieces of yoga….I have a hard time committing to an extended “yoga session.” I do think winter is officially done, but March (in Iowa) certainly was pay back for February.
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
I definitely agree about the yoga. Its easier for me to commit to 20-30 minutes than a long session…even though I know they can be beneficial.

I have no April goals. After just coming off from a marathon, I think it’ll be nice to not have a training plan and I can just run whem I want at the distance I feel like. At least it has been feeling like spring here. Makes me more motivated to get out.
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Its good to take a break and not have any goals for a little bit! Hopefully you can enjoy some nice easy runs in the warm weather.
Laura @ This Runner's Recipes says
Foot strength is so easy to neglect. I have to set daily reminders on my phone now for it! I hope you figure out your foot problem soon, but at least you have been able to run!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
I think I need to start incorporating the foot exercises into my other PT stuff, otherwise I just don’t get around to it!

We’ve definitely gone back to March temps, and rain. I was so spoiled for the last few weeks, and I was enjoying being outside as much as I could. I’m cranky that i have to use the treadmill again with the rain, but what can I do about the weather? We even have a chance of snow on Saturday.
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Hopefully the rain won’t last too much longer and fingers crossed the snow isn’t too bad!
Suzy says
I’m sorry about your foot issues. 🙁 I won’t talk about it though. It’s not snowing here anymore but it’s still raining nonstop and feeling very dreary. It really affects my mood! I take between 4000-5000 units of Vitamin D per day. I’m afraid of how I’d feel if I didn’t take those supplements! My plan for April is to keep up my strength work, and to keep running safely while pregnant.
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
That’s a great plan, and hopefully the sun will come out this month and make your mood even better!

We’ve had rain on and off this months. Ready for spring (I know I shouldn’t complain, the Californian winter – in most parts – is so mild.)
I hope the foot/ankle/shin problem goes away… it’s hard to pinpoint sometimes where the pain is coming from.
P.S. Also: HI! New reader here 🙂
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
No matter what the temperature, rain can be a real downer. I hope you get some spring weather soon. And thanks for reading!
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
I’m thankful that you clued me into Jasyoga! My husband has been doing the videos too, and he never stretched much before (but he needs to!). And I just pinned a kettlebell workout you posted on Pinterest. I feel like I’m winning today! 🙂
For April I will be concentrating on getting to the start line of my half in good shape, and recovering well after it. Good luck on your goals!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Im glad you and your husband like Jasyoga! Good luck with your goals as well!
Patty says
Solid work, Lisa! I think the daily meditation is something I need to work on.
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
It is tough to get started but once it becomes a habit its pretty great!
Kimberly G says
LoL – March was definitely crazy as far as the weather was concerned. Luckily i think the snow is over!
Great work this month! I really love your dedication to meditation.
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Thanks! Yea, I definitely hope we are done with snow and on to some warmer temps!
Sarah @ Bucket List Tummy says
Pinterest is a mystery to me but kudos to you! I feel like I need to switch things up often as well – I get bored too easily!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Pinterest definitely takes some time and was really confusing to me at first!
Laura says
Sounds like you’re making slow and steady progress- that’s awesome!
You’re right about the second blast of winter. I am so ready for sunshine and spring!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Thanks! Me too!
Renée says
I try hard not to tempt the weather gods but it looks like that’s what happened to you from Feb to March! Luckily we seem to finally be over winter here and we are literally and figuratively in “full bloom” here in the Netherlands.
My month was not great at all – my April goals are not much different but they are to help me be aware so that I don’t fall into my same traps each time (stress = stress eating = not logging my food = not seeing any weight loss = disappointment. Rinse. Lather. Repeat).
Looks like you had a decent month all in all!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Sorry you didn’t have a great month- I hope April goes well for you!
