With Mother's Day coming up soon, it's time to make sure you have gifts for all the moms in your life. What's the perfect gift for a mom who runs? I'm going to share a few ideas! Use this list to find the perfect Mother's Day gift ideas for runners or to share with someone as your wish list.

Mother’s Day Gift Ideas for Runners

Koala Clip

If you haven’t tried a Koala Clip yet, you’re missing out! I’ve been using mine for about 3 years now and I love it. You can use it to carry your phone, key, and other small items on the run. It slides into the back of your sports bra or could also be worn on the side of tights or shorts. Check out my review of Koala Clip here.

FRÉ Anti-aging products

Another must-have for moms who run is FRÉ skincare products. Some of my favorite products include Brighten Me, Revive Me, Recover Me and Protect Me, which all happen to be anti-aging products. Today through Friday (4/30/21) you can save 40% on anti aging solutions plus 10% more off with the code MILEBYMILEBLOG. Perfect for a Mother’s Day Gift!

Brooks Run Bra

Nope, these aren’t your standard “sports bras”. They are called “run bras” because they are designed specifically for running! The two new styles are called “Dare” and “Drive” and there are several different styles/cuts of each. My favorite is the Drive 3 Pocket Run Bra. I like that it has alot of coverage and (of course) pockets!

Sarah Marie Design Studio Shirt

Sarah Marie Design Studio has so many fun designs for runners. I recently got a t-shirt that says “Run all the miles, drink all the wine”. I also love this “Mama needs a run” sweatshirt. Perfect for Mother’s Day, right?!

Coffee Mug for Mothers

Most moms run on coffee, right? So why not get them a cute mug that has to do with running! There are lots of options on Etsy, like this one that says “I’m a Mother and Marathon Runner…don’t underestimate me”.

Necklace for Mothers

What about a cute piece of jewelry for the running mom in your life? For my first Mother’s Day my husband and son got me a little necklace with a “G” (for Grayson) on it from Erica Sara. She has lots of running jewelry too! I might eventually add other charms to my necklace, like a running quote or “26.2”. (Note that the website says orders needed to be placed by 4/26 to be delivered for Mother’s Day. So if you don’t want your gift to be late maybe consider a gift certificate instead!)

A Running Book

I don’t have much time to read, but when I do I pretty much exclusively read books about running. Books make a great Mother’s Day gift for runners! I shared a post with books to help you run faster. I also recently started reading Win At All Costs and so far it’s really good. Wendy wrote a review about it last fall.

A Run Coach or Training Plan as a Mother’s Day Gift

Now that races are starting to happen again, it’s a great time to start working with a run coach. Coaching services or a training plan make a great Mother’s Day gift. This is a very individual decision, so don’t go signing up for coaching without talking it over with the person you are getting it for. There are lots of options from monthly training plans, to group coaching, to individualized coaching. There are many coaches that post in this link-up so be sure to check them out! You can learn about my coaching services here.

The Gift of Time for Mother’s Day

When all else fails, moms can always use the gift of time! Offer to watch their kids while they go grab a cup of coffee, or drink a glass of wine, or just sit in silence and do nothing. Especially this year, time is invaluable!

Wait, what? A running bra with pockets? I missed that one!
I just had a look at the Drive bra, it looks great! Does it work well with the phone in the back pocket?

Great suggestions, Lisa! I should forward this to my men, lol. Truthfully, I am looking forward to getting together with my mom and my sister, all of us together for the first time since the pandemic!

That’s going to be so nice! So happy for you guys. My sister is due with her second baby in the next week or so, so my mom is staying with her in Texas for a while. Not sure the next time we will all be together!

Of course I think moms should be celebrated all the time! You can never have too many run bras or running gear. (Or can you?)

I love my Koala Clip(s)! Even in the winter, when it’s too difficult to stash it under all the layers, I carry my phone in it (in my hand) for my shorter runs.

Agreed! Its so convenient. I’ve also carried it in my hand and when I didn’t want to get it back in my sports bra.

I imagine most mother’s really want that gift of time! Too bad somehow Dads don’t think that’s enough.

A training plan from a running coach would be awesome!

I would love a few hours to myself- even if its not to relax, just to get some things done!

These are all great ideas! I have two sweatshirts from Sarah Marie Design and love them. I’ve definitely had my eye on the Drive 3 pocket bra- I think I’ll have to order it for myself though, because a mysterious package has already arrived containing my Mother’s Day present!

Hopefully you can get a break from diapers on Mother’s Day! I’ve never tried Tracksmith but I’ve heard great things about it.

Yesterday’s long run was not what I wanted it to Yesterday’s long run was not what I wanted it to be. The plan was to take the day off from work, head to the trail where I could run 10 uninterrupted miles at MP (16 total) and practice my race day fueling while wearing my race day shoes.

What actually happened? All week I was stressed about this run and the condition of the trail. We had lots of rain on Thursday, and Friday was forecasted to be very windy. I tried to get in the best mindset possible, reminding myself that I won’t be able to control the conditions on race day. Meanwhile, I haven’t been sleeping well thanks to my 2 year old waking up every night, and my watch has been basically telling me that I’m losing all my fitness and need a week of recovery.

While I started the run feeling pretty good, after 11 miles (7 at MP) my stomach turned and I almost got sick on the side of the trail. I just couldn’t recover from that. The best I could do was run the rest of the miles easy, and needed some walk breaks. On top of that, my shoe kept rubbing my foot on top and I stopped twice to retie it. This has never happened before and now I’m questioning what shoes I should wear for the race. The trail was also in rough condition with several trees blocking it, lots of wet leaves, and rocks/sticks that I had to look out for.

I just can’t believe how bad I felt for the last 5 miles of this run and I can’t pinpoint the cause. Am I overdoing it with the fueling and can’t handle it on harder effort runs? Was it something I ate recently? The hard part is there’s no time to really try something different before the race, as all I have left is a 10 mile easy run next weekend.

I’m trying to remember that one bad run does not take away from all the good runs this training cycle. I’m using today to reset and move on so I can make the most of my last 2 weeks of training. It’s not the way I wanted my last big long run to go, but I suppose it was good practice for pushing through even when I felt pretty awful.

Who else has had a terrible long run close to your race?

Spent almost every step of this 21 mile run questi Spent almost every step of this 21 mile run questioning my life choices. Like waking up at 3am to run 12 miles on the treadmill and 9 outside. This was a crazy week with a kid that wasn’t sleeping great and fighting a cold and super busy days at work. My legs were just tired the whole time today. It was really hard to run outside after so many treadmill miles and my pace was much slower than inside.

I reminded myself that this is peak week. It’s supposed to feel hard. If it was easy everyone would do it. I ran 53 miles this week and am not injured. The weather is perfect. I’ve gotten in every planned run of this training cycle so far. I get to do this.

And I managed to finish strong with my last 3 miles the fastest of the (outside) run. I owe that to a solid fueling plan and taking all my gels even when I really didn’t want to.

3 weeks to go until race day!

Yesterday’s long run was followed immediately by Yesterday’s long run was followed immediately by back to back kid activities, so there was no time to post about it. (I ate breakfast in the car and lunch at soccer practice- it was that kind of a day.) I was kind of nervous going in to this run, especially now that I’m getting down to last few key long runs. I had 16 miles with 4 x 2 miles on the plan, which sounded manageable but also challenging. The weather was perfect and I hit all my paces. At the end I got a little confused- thinking I was at 15 miles but I was actually at 14 🙃 Got home and realized I chafed really bad. Another long run down, and another week closer to race day.

Do you ever psych yourself out before long runs?
