The Benefits of Running 3 Days a Week

Do you have to run more to get faster? Not necessarily. There are many benefits to following a 3 day per week running schedule. It can also help prevent injury. Click post to read more.

If I had my way I would probably run 6 or 7 times a week. However, I know that's not realistic. Even when I am in my best shape and 100% healthy, it just won't work for me for a few reasons. I've learned that I need at least 1 full rest day per week, or at least one day of really light exercise. Also, running can be time-consuming.  I need to make time for other workouts in order to stay healthy. Over the past 6 months ... Read the Post...

Do As I Say, Not As I Do

Mile by Mile Running

Who do I think I am, jumping back into these harder workouts and long runs? Let me just put this disclaimer out there: Do as I say, not as I do. I would never recommend this type of return to running to anyone else. As a running coach, I am more than familiar with the concept of increasing gradually and adding back speed or distance, not both at the same time. But here I am, happily running double-digit long runs again ... Read the Post...

5 Questions On My Mind & October Stridebox

Real Bar

Happy Friday! We all know it can be hard to think of creative/thoughtful posts at this point in the week. There are a few questions on my mind that I thought I would put out there. Maybe you've been wondering the same thing or can help me out! 1. Why does Bloglovin hide new posts? Is it supposed to be like Instagram where there's some algorithm involved? Usually, it seems like posts appear in order, but sometimes a post ... Read the Post...

Once a Distance Runner…

Once a distance runner, always a distance runner? Do you think that even after time off, distance running will always come naturally to you? In this post I talk about the mental part of returning from an injury and how after getting past the initial stage of adjusting to running, it al comes back to be pretty easily. Click post to read more!

Once a distance runner, always a distance runner. Is that a saying? It should be. I think once we reach that threshold where long distance running becomes the norm, it's hard to ever go back.  Every time I have been injured I question how I will ever get back to running x miles or x pace. And every time I do it, it's not as hard as I expected. For me, there is the initial struggle of getting back to running ... Read the Post...

Spent almost every step of this 21 mile run questi Spent almost every step of this 21 mile run questioning my life choices. Like waking up at 3am to run 12 miles on the treadmill and 9 outside. This was a crazy week with a kid that wasn’t sleeping great and fighting a cold and super busy days at work. My legs were just tired the whole time today. It was really hard to run outside after so many treadmill miles and my pace was much slower than inside.

I reminded myself that this is peak week. It’s supposed to feel hard. If it was easy everyone would do it. I ran 53 miles this week and am not injured. The weather is perfect. I’ve gotten in every planned run of this training cycle so far. I get to do this.

And I managed to finish strong with my last 3 miles the fastest of the (outside) run. I owe that to a solid fueling plan and taking all my gels even when I really didn’t want to.

3 weeks to go until race day!

Yesterday’s long run was followed immediately by Yesterday’s long run was followed immediately by back to back kid activities, so there was no time to post about it. (I ate breakfast in the car and lunch at soccer practice- it was that kind of a day.) I was kind of nervous going in to this run, especially now that I’m getting down to last few key long runs. I had 16 miles with 4 x 2 miles on the plan, which sounded manageable but also challenging. The weather was perfect and I hit all my paces. At the end I got a little confused- thinking I was at 15 miles but I was actually at 14 🙃 Got home and realized I chafed really bad. Another long run down, and another week closer to race day.

Do you ever psych yourself out before long runs?
