Happy Friday, everyone! Today’s Friday Five topic is “Fitness Snapshots”, so I’ll be sharing snapshots of my five favorite fitness activities…well actually I cheated a little and made them into collages, since it was hard to choose just one picture for each!
1. Running– obviously this is my #1 fitness activity and I have about a million running pictures saved on my computer.
2. Yoga– I don’t have many yoga pictures since I don’t take my phone into class. When I was on vacation I used the self-timer to capture the longest I ever stayed in crow pose!
3. Body Pump– This is my favorite way to strength train, and I try to take a class once a week.
4. Cross-training– Im not as good about cross-training as maybe I should be, but I’ve done spin before and made an attempt at swimming. My gym only has an outdoor pool, so that’s my excuse during the winter months.
5. Core work– If you read my blog regularly you know I’m all about doing planks, glute exercises, and other core work almost every day. I also tried PureBarre for the first time last week, and that is quite the core workout!
Thanks to Courtney, Cynthia and Mar for hosting the Friday Five! Head over to one of their blogs to see everyone else’s fitness snapshots!
I’m also linking up with Jill for Fitness Friday!
What are your favorite fitness activities?
meredith @ The Cookie ChRUNicles says
Obviously I love to run as you know but Pure Barre has worked it’s way up to the top of my list too!
[email protected] says
I can see why! Its definitely the perfect supplement to running!
Pam and Christine says
Running is my favorite activity and right now I am singularly focused on training for my first Boston Marathon. Eek, it is coming up in two months! I also like cross training using a stationary bike, Yoga and sometimes a fitness class.
[email protected] says
How exciting! When I am marathon training I definitely do less cross training so its awesome that you have been able to keep up with it!
Susie @ SuzLyfe says
I’m hoping to add sweaty Suz workouts to the next round up! 😉
[email protected] says
Definitely! I actually pre-wrote this on Sunday because this week is super hectic and I am traveling today. BY THE WAY CAN I JUST TELL YOU IM IN CHICAGO RIGHT NOW. I wanted to tweet or instagram something clever to you and Sara but there are no cool pictures to take inside the United Club at the airport. (En route to Arkansas!)
Laura @ This Runner's Recipes says
Running is definitely my favorite! I also do Pilates—such a great core workout!—and yoga and bodyweight strength work. When the weather is nice I love to go hiking in addition to running.
[email protected] says
I think if I had gotten into pilates years ago I could have avoided alot of injuries. I feel like barre is a similar core workout so I hope to keep up with that even if its at home!
Kristina says
Running is numero uno! But I also like strength training. Core work is probably my least favorite. I think of it as a necessary evil 😉
[email protected] says
Yes, it definitely is! But I think the more you do it the easier it gets. Or maybe that just means you need to make it harder?
Michele @ paleorunningmomma says
Love these fitness photos! I’m always behind and just found out about self timed photos so I’m finally getting more yoga ones. Not sure how to work that out with running though. Aside from races, how do people get running photos?
[email protected] says
I’m so glad that the iPhone has a self-timer now! Im still not good at taking pictures of myself. And Im not sure how people get running pictures besides racing? Maybe if they have a running buddy take them?
Lesley says
I love cross training but the HIIT I’m doing adds more cardio to it without banging up my legs. I don’t swim though. I know enough not to drown but I am far from any kind of swimmer.
[email protected] says
Thats how I feel about swimming…can stay above water but I know I have terrible form when I try to do laps!
HoHo Runs says
Running is just about all I do, except in summer. I’m like you. I have tons of running pictures…I’m like a race picture hoarder. They are all memories that I don’t want to forget. Love your crow pose picture.
[email protected] says
Unfortunately all my race photos are watermarked…I can never justify paying for them!
Katie @ Fit Life by Katie says
Your running photos make me miss running! I hope to get more into it soon. I took a little hiatus. Have a good weekend!
[email protected] says
I hope you can get back into it! Its nice to take a break once in a while and it will always be there when you’re ready to go back:)
[email protected] says
Doing classes us what I miss the most about not being a member at a gym. It just makes me become me creative with my workouts at home. I have been try to incorporate more strength and core work recently.
[email protected] says
Thats a great plan. I also love taking classes, and usually stick to the ones at my gym bc they’re included in my membership. But the studios are really nice…I wish they didnt have such a high price tag!
Lauren @ The Bikini Experiment says
This is cool! I wish I had more fitness snapshots, but before i had my iphone I just never took that many random pictures. Now I have tons! Happy Friday!!
[email protected] says
I didn’t start taking alot of pictures until I started blogging! But over the past year and a half I have collected quite a few!
Cailee August says
Look at you being all fit and active!! 🙂 These look like some fun activities!!
[email protected] says
Thanks! I love to work out and be active!
Suzy says
Hey, so I started doing planks as my core is shot after having Callum. I used to be able to hold the plank for 5 minutes, and now I start shaking at 1 minute and I can only make it to 2 minutes. So I do one plank a day for 2 minutes. Should I be resting after 2 min and then going back into a plank for a bit longer in increments of say, 20 seconds until I get to 5 minutes OR should I just add 10 seconds onto 2 minutes per week or something?
[email protected] says
I think that you could do either if you are trying to get back up to holding a longer plank. But lately i have been reading about how you don’t necessarily need to hold a plank for longer, but you should make it more challenging. So you could do 1-2 minutes and then add things like leg lefts, arm lifts, or place your arms or feet on an unstable surface. I am thinking about posting some ideas at some point so if you think it would be helpful let me know and I’ll try to do it next week!
Sherry says
Great pics! My favorites are running and cross-training. Have a great weekend!
[email protected] says
Those are great- I hope you have a good weekend as well!
John @ run. geek. run(disney) says
Great pictures. I really need to step up to doing more cross training and trying yoga. maybe I’ll do a better job the next week.
[email protected] says
I find it so hard to add those in when all I want to do is run! I definitely find the yoga to be beneficial. I usually don’t cross train unless I’m injured or taking a break from running.
Melanie says
I love Body Pump classes but I have a hard time keeping up with them and running. Some days I’m so sore, I feel terrible running. I’ve switched to yoga while I’m training for my marathon.
[email protected] says
I did the same thing with my last marathon training. I cut out the body pump because I felt like it was just too much to do that on top of all the running. Now that I am running much lower mileage I have been able to add pump back in again!
Lauren @ ihadabiglunch says
I can totally see you being “that person” who breaks out the planks or air squats when you’re bored standing there or hanging out watching TV haha. I like focusing on other types of workouts when I’m really sweating and then randomly throwing in planks or wall sits or something throughout the day. I can’t wait until this snow melts so I can run all the time! Your pictures are making me jealous!
[email protected] says
Hahaha I am that person!! Or Ill just roll around on my foam roller!
So I’m actually traveling today (and ironically i’m in the Chicago airport!) and I am hating that I have been doing so much sitting! I have the urge to do a mini workout or start planking in the airport! I think my husband would leave me if I did that:)
Sue @ This Mama Runs for Cupcakes says
Awesome crow! I have been trying this but seem to crash onto my face more often than not 🙂
[email protected] says
Thanks! Some days I can do it, and others it just won’t happen. Gotta keep practicing I guess!
Tara @ Running 'N' Reading says
Great pics, Lisa! I’m so excited about going to my first Body Pump class this weekend, on Sunday; I can’t wait! I’ve heard such good things from so many of you, and I think I really need this. Hope you have a great weekend!
[email protected] says
Ohhh have fun! You will probably be sore but it will be worth it…and if you keep going back you won’t be as sore next time:)
Nicole @ Foodie Loves Fitness says
Awesome pics! Oooh my favorite fitness activities are hiking, boxing, yoga and HIIT. I’m actually going for a hike later on today! 🙂
[email protected] says
Sounds great! Enjoy your hike and have a great weekend!
Liz @ Loving to Tri says
Great pics! I love to run, bike, and swim. Some days, I like running better. Some days, I like the other sports better. Variety is always good!
[email protected] says
Thats so great that you enjoy alot of different activities…that will keep you from getting bored, for sure!
Courtney @ Eat Pray Run DC says
so, what’d you think of pure barre??
[email protected] says
I really enjoyed it! Im posting a review next week (Tuesday)….the only downsides I saw for going long tern were the cost and the location (we don’t have a studio in Baltimore city). But I can definitely see why people go regularly!
Lindsey says
I wish I could go to Body Pump all the time! It’s been far too long since I’ve been! I’m trying my first Pure Barre class next weekend–pretty sure I’m not ever going to be able to move again 🙂
[email protected] says
Sometimes I find it SO hard to fit in all the classes that I want to take! I was pretty sore from pure barre for a few days…I’ll be posting a review on Tuesday if you’re interested!
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
I think I have way too many running photos on my computer! And now that I’m in the yoga challenge, I’m adding those to my collection. Sometimes the camera on my phone freezes. Could it be…too many selfies?
[email protected] says
Haha possibly?:) I definitely have alot of “outtakes” on my phone that never make it to instagram or the blog.
Hailey says
Being new to yoga, that pose is just wow. Maybe one day! Other than running, my other favorite is core work. I don’t know why, I just like all kinds of plank variations and bridges too 🙂
[email protected] says
Crow pose took ALOT of patience and practice and there are still days where it doesn’t happen. I have a weird liking of core work as well. I know some people hate it but I love when I really feel the burn in my abs or glutes!
GiGi Eats says
The elliptical and I are besties 😉
[email protected] says
I am not a fan of the elliptical, but I can’t hate on it too much because its definitely a great cross-training tool! Not sure why but the time just passes SO slow for me when I’m on there!
Carmy says
my 5 are probably running running running running and more running haha. I reallllly suck at cross training despite telling myself that I’d do it I really much rather be running. it’s just what I’m in love with haha
Jennifer says
Nice crow pose! I’ve been practicing this week!
