Running For Two: Week 24

This seemed like it was the longest short week ever. Looking back on it, it did go quickly but I felt like so much happened. This was also week 24 of running for two. While I’m still feeling good, I’m starting to feel it a little more!

Running For Two: Week 24

Monday: 7 miles of hills + Strength Training

It was Labor Day which meant a day off from work and more time to run. The goal was to run hills. I was thinking of doing hill repeats but it was just too hot. Instead I just opted for a hilly route. I also got in my first strength training workout of the week.

Monday Labor Day Run

Tuesday: 5 miles easy + Mobility

I decided to run on the treadmill to keep my run really easy. I felt like if I ran outside it would have been far from easy due to the heat and humidity.

tuesday treadmill run

Wednesday: 6 mile Fartlek Run

The heat and humidity continued! This week I changed things up a bit. I did a warm up and then 3 x 5 miles hard/3 minute easy, 4 x 2 minutes hard, 1 minute easy, and a cool down.

wednesday fartlek run

Thursday: Strength training + 4 miles

Another treadmill run to get a break from the heat. By this point in the week my legs were feeling the effects of all the workouts.

strength training and run

Friday: 45 minutes Yoga

This was really more of a deep stretching session which was just what my body needed. My mind, however, could have gone for a run. I just couldn’t get into the yoga mindset and instead just kept thinking about all the things I needed to get done. When I run, it helps clear my mind. I struggled with getting out of my own head during this yoga practice.

Saturday: 8 miles

When I started this run it was warm and humid. About a mile in it started raining, which felt good. However, throughout the run the temps dropped and the rain picked up. By the end I was soaked and chilly! It was a strange run. The cooler weather definitely helped my pace, though. My last mile was under 9 minutes which never happens anymore! My overall pace was slower from slower miles at the start including a short walk break in the beginning.

rainy run

Sunday: Strength Training

This is actually going to count for next week because I should be going away. More on that below.

Running for Two Week 24 Update

So what else has been going on at 24 weeks? Heartburn. I started taking Zantac last weekend which has helped a lot. We are also trying to get a bunch of rooms in the house painted preferably before we start setting up the nursery.

24 weeks 6 days pregnant

This week we had plans to go on our babymoon. We just booked it a few weeks ago because it took awhile to find a location to go to. Unfortunately, our destination is right in the path of Hurricane Florence. We were supposed to go to Kiawah Island, South Carolina so now we are trying to cancel that and find somewhere else to go. Apparently it’s not easy to find a nice hotel 3 days before a trip!

Stay tuned for what we end up doing!

Ugh Hurricane Florence is already being a pain in the butt 🙁 She might also affect my plans for RnR Philly this weekend. I hope that you are able to go to Kiawah Island at a later date. I am actually planning on running the half marathon there in December.

If the storm doesn’t impact the area too much then we won’t get a refund but can use our reservation another time. But we didn’t want to wait to decide so we already changed our plans and are going to Denver instead! I hope the storm doesn’t impact your race in Philly.

Talk about timing!! What a shame that you can’t go to Kiawah. Looking forward to hearing about where you end up. Have a fun trip!

It’s disappointing but I guess it’s good to know ahead of time! We just booked a trip to Denver instead!

Hope you’re able to find somewhere of interest to go out of Florence’s range
I agree, Saturday’s run was totally weird. Friday too to some extent. I ran into my super on the way back and she asked if I’d run or walked since I didn’t look as gross as I have post run this summer.

I think I looked even worse than usual on Saturday because of all the rain!

Saturday did have some weird weather. I feel like it got cooler as my run went on but I’m not going to complain about that since I raced a 5k.

That stinks about your babymoon. I hope you can find something else soon!!

The cooler weather feels nice, I just wish it would stop raining so much!

I sometimes have a hard time getting my mind to slow down and go to sleep. Yoga can be tough on those days too because I’m thinking so much and missing the cues of the video.

Slowing down my mind is always a problem for me too!

Oh gosh. I’m sorry Florence is throwing a kink in your babymoon plans. I hope you’re able to scramble and find somewhere else fun to go. Great week of workouts. Isn’t it so weird when temps drop during a run?

It’s disappointing but Im glad we knew about it ahead of time and could change our plans. Now we’re going to Denver! It’s supposed to be hot and sunny but that should make for good pool weather.

I’ve heard great things about Kiawah, I guess it’s great you’ll get to go at a different point in the future! No hurricanes in Denver, you should be good there 🙂 Have a great trip!

Thanks! It looks like we should have great weather in Denver so that’s definitely the silver lining to all this.

Great week! Those hot and humid runs are brutal – the rain would be refreshing if it weren’t so cold!

I’m so sorry about your babymoon having to change locations. I hope you’re able to find an alternative soon! South Carolina is beautiful, but those darn hurricanes…

My mind always wanders a little during yoga. Lately the poses have been so hard to do that it’s all I can focus on, lol!

      September 11, 2018 at 5:21 pm

I think doing harder poses can sometimes be a good distraction! The classes I’ve been doing have been really easy, so that’s probably why I get so distracted.

Your running for two is going so well! Funny, the only time I’ve ever had heartburn was while pregnant. It would happen when I would lay down at night. I guess it was from the extra pressure/weight? That is too bad about having to scrub the Kiawah plans. I hope you can find a suitable replacement. Thanks for linking!

The heartburn is pretty bad for me at night too! I need to make sure I dont eat too much right before bed.

Would it even be race week if I wasn’t a ball of n Would it even be race week if I wasn’t a ball of nerves and not able to sleep? This is my first big marathon in 10 years, my first time traveling to a race in 10 years, and my first time spending the night away from my kids. And of course I’m tapering so I can’t run off the nerves 🙃 #marathontraining #taper #richmondmarathon
Looked like fall, felt like summer 🍁 I was definit Looked like fall, felt like summer 🍁 I was definitely overdressed for this run but it was nice to not wear gloves or a headband! This was the run I needed a week before my marathon. After last week’s disaster of a long run it felt great to just run an easy 10 miles. (And these days 10 miles feels like nothing). I think I figured out the fueling and shoes 🤞so nothing left to do but take it easy, carb load, and get in the right mindset! Is it unseasonably warm where you are?

#running #marathontraining #longrun
Yesterday’s long run was not what I wanted it to b Yesterday’s long run was not what I wanted it to be. The plan was to take the day off from work, head to the trail where I could run 10 uninterrupted miles at MP (16 total) and practice my race day fueling while wearing my race day shoes.

What actually happened? All week I was stressed about this run and the condition of the trail. We had lots of rain on Thursday, and Friday was forecasted to be very windy. I tried to get in the best mindset possible, reminding myself that I won’t be able to control the conditions on race day. Meanwhile, I haven’t been sleeping well thanks to my 2 year old waking up every night, and my watch has been basically telling me that I’m losing all my fitness and need a week of recovery.

While I started the run feeling pretty good, after 11 miles (7 at MP) my stomach turned and I almost got sick on the side of the trail. I just couldn’t recover from that. The best I could do was run the rest of the miles easy, and needed some walk breaks. On top of that, my shoe kept rubbing my foot on top and I stopped twice to retie it. This has never happened before and now I’m questioning what shoes I should wear for the race. The trail was also in rough condition with several trees blocking it, lots of wet leaves, and rocks/sticks that I had to look out for.

I just can’t believe how bad I felt for the last 5 miles of this run and I can’t pinpoint the cause. Am I overdoing it with the fueling and can’t handle it on harder effort runs? Was it something I ate recently? The hard part is there’s no time to really try something different before the race, as all I have left is a 10 mile easy run next weekend.

I’m trying to remember that one bad run does not take away from all the good runs this training cycle. I’m using today to reset and move on so I can make the most of my last 2 weeks of training. It’s not the way I wanted my last big long run to go, but I suppose it was good practice for pushing through even when I felt pretty awful.

Who else has had a terrible long run close to your race?

#running #marathontraining #longrun
Spent almost every step of this 21 mile run questi Spent almost every step of this 21 mile run questioning my life choices. Like waking up at 3am to run 12 miles on the treadmill and 9 outside. This was a crazy week with a kid that wasn’t sleeping great and fighting a cold and super busy days at work. My legs were just tired the whole time today. It was really hard to run outside after so many treadmill miles and my pace was much slower than inside.

I reminded myself that this is peak week. It’s supposed to feel hard. If it was easy everyone would do it. I ran 53 miles this week and am not injured. The weather is perfect. I’ve gotten in every planned run of this training cycle so far. I get to do this.

And I managed to finish strong with my last 3 miles the fastest of the (outside) run. I owe that to a solid fueling plan and taking all my gels even when I really didn’t want to.

3 weeks to go until race day!
