Even though I didn’t really set any goals for August 2018, it ended up being a really strong month of workouts. I’m still taking things day by day/week by week and luckily I am still feeling good. While I did stick to regular workouts in August, I felt like work was so busy that there wasn’t much time for anything else.
Month in Review: August 2018
Here are my other monthly check-ins from this year:
January 2018
February 2018
March 2018
April 2018
May 2018
June 2018
July 2018
Running for the month of August 2018
I managed to run my highest mileage this month since May of 2016. There are some days when I run on the treadmill and I forget to start my Garmin, so I’d guess my mileage is around 133 or so, which is pretty much tied with 132 miles in May 2016. Before that my highest mileage was October 2015 when I ran 216 miles during my peak month of marathon training.
I’m not one to worry about monthly mileage (or even weekly mileage) especially while pregnant, it was just really surprising to see that I hit that number this month.
Strength Training
I started Phase 8 of my strength training plan this month and just finished up week 3. Most of the exercises I have done before, but I’ve modified them to what I can handle right now. My regular strength training sessions also include some mobility work so it’s good to know I’m getting that in twice a week.
Other Workouts
To be honest I just haven’t wanted to do other workouts like cycling, yoga, and walking these days. I figure there will be a point when I won’t be running as much as I can go back to those activities at that time. I did do some incline walking this month, so that was a nice change. And I’ve been pretty good about stretching after all of my runs.
Running Shoes
I’ve continued to track my shoe mileage and as I mentioned last week I needed a new pair of Levitates. Last weekend I was able to find a pair of the older models on Finish Line for $90!
Reading in August 2018
After reading a record number books (for me) in July, I didn’t do any reading in August! There was just no time. I’ll be away for a few days in September and hope to do some reading then.
I think that about sums it up! Hopefully September will bring some slightly cooler weather and some more good runs!

How did you do with your goals in August 2018?
Do you track your weekly/monthly mileage?
Have you read any good books lately?
Marcia says
Wow! Look at those miles. That’s so great running agrees with you at this stage of your pregnancy. I feel like September is already flying, although I won’t be sad when this heat breaks. I don’t track mileage but I did put 2 new pairs of shoes into action.

I am definitely ready for cooler weather at this point. That being said, Im not ready for the cold yet so I hope we get a nice fall this year!
Laurie says
Good for you for having such a great training month! I have been focusing on running and strength training lately too (before my injury). Now I am just looking forward to being able to run any miles at all! 🙁
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
I hope you can get back to running soon!
Wendy says
I know I keep saying it, but I’m just so impressed with your mileage during your pregnancy! That baby is going to come running out of the delivery room! LOL!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Ha! I keep telling Rob that I’m a little worried he will never sleep unless he’s moving because of being so used to all the running. I hope I’m not setting us up!
MCM Mama Runs says
Great job on all the workouts this month. Glad to hear you are still feeling good. I didn’t run at all during either of my pregnancies, so I’m always impressed when someone does.
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
I had no idea what to expect, so I’m just glad it’s still going well at this point!
Maureen @ Maureen Gets Real says
That’s crazy how much you’re running while pregnant. That’s a definite blessing to still feel so good and have your doctor say you can continue on as normal.
I track my weekly mileage but don’t really make a note of it unless I make the effort to look and count it up for the month. Now I’m curious what my highest month has been!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
I think it’s really helped in so many ways to keep up with my regular routine for the most part.
It’s always interesting to look at mileage, especially when it’s not something you’re focused on!

I did read one of my staple series in August. I read the Royal Spyness mysteries, and August is usually when the next book is released. August was agood balance between vacation and training. I didn’t push myself on the cruise, and enjoyed the running I did do.
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Glad you had a good August! It’s nice to just go with the flow on vacation.
Cari says
What I like about your Garmin/screenshot thereof is it’s readable without glasses. Definitely something I’m thinking of as I get a new watch.
Read a few good books. Just posted review of one about a man who walked the London Underground, which I found fascinating. Currently reading a book by Obama’s former head of Comms which I’m loving. Next on tap is either IAin Sinclair’s Last London or Bryson’s Road to Little Dribbling
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Yes the screen on the Garmin is big and clear! The only downside is I like to wear it to work because it tracks steps but its a little bulky. Those books sounds interesting!

I am impressed with your August mileage. Great job! I always track my mileage thanks to Garmin. 🙂 You got a great deal on those Levitate. I bought a pair and ended up paying $105. Have you seen Brooks’ newest shoes, the Bedlam? I want those too.
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
I don’t know much about the Bedlam but now I need to go look into them! I have 3 pairs of shoes in my rotation so I know I really don’t need any more right now…
Kimberly Hatting says
That mileage! Impressive!! I always track my mileage…although I am not into stats (ongoing paces, etc.), I do keep track of all the miles 😉 And, I’m due for a new pair of shoes 😉
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
It’s nice that my Garmin keeps track of all the stats, even if I don’t pay attention to them all the time. It’s just nice to know they are there!
Kim G says
I’ve been so impressed by your mileage during your pregnancy!
I always track my mileage on my sneakers. If I don’t, I could end up trying to do a long run in sneakers that are “past their prime” and that will most likely result in some type of injury for me.
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
It can be tough to know when shoes are worn out so tracking mileage is so helpful. Since I wear multiple pairs of shoes I need to keep track otherwise it’s impossible to know when they’re worn out!
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
Congrats on the mileage! I like using Strava to track my shoe mileage – it makes it pretty easy! I haven’t read much the past month since I haven’t been able to take the regional rail to/from work…darn physical therapy to blame again! Hope you have another strong month!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
That’s nice that Strava tracks your shoe mileage! I think Garmin does too but only for one pair at a time and since I wear a few pairs it isn’t very helpful.
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
Books? What are those? haha . No book reading for me. I can’t seem to sit still that long! I do hope to get started on a scrapbook from our summer vacation soon though, so that will keep me quite busy. Great month of workouts – no slowing you down!!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
I used to be really good about scrapbooking when I was in high school/college but not anymore! Its so fun to look back on pictures and other momentos in a scrapbook so I’d love to get back to it. It just feels like there’s never enough time to do everything!
Sarah @ Bucket List Tummy says
Great job on your goals! How do you keep track of your shoe mileage – just a spreadsheet?
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Thanks! I use an app called ShoeTracker. It’s nice to be able to put in the information on my phone whenever I think of it.
