Charles Street 12 2014 Race Recap

On Saturday I ran in the Charles Street 12. In case you don’t feel like reading every little detail about this race, I am going to start off by just summing up the race day’s key points: I ran a 1:33:41, which is a 7:48 pace. It was a really fun but challenging race! We had great weather, especially for early August in Baltimore. Overall the event was great and so well organized. I got to hang out ... Read the Post...

Weekly Recap 8/3-8/9

Another week down, which means I’m that much closer to marathon training. My workouts this week were focused on getting some faster miles in earlier in the week to prepare for the Charles St 12 miler, and then a few easy runs so that my legs would be rested for the race. Here is my weekly recap: Week of 8/3-8/9 Sunday 8/3: Rest!! Focused on recovery including a wonderful Epsom salt bath. Monday 8/4: 6.5 miles ... Read the Post...

Veggie, Bacon and Egg Frittata

Veggie, bacon and egg frittata

Last week I mentioned that while I was doing my meal prep I tried making a frittata recipe that I created on my own using the ingredients I had been using in my breakfasts. This has been a huge time saver this week. It takes less than a minute to heat up breakfast and there is no cutting up veggies every day or cleaning pans. You do it all once early in the week and then you don’t have to worry about it ... Read the Post...

Distance Running Gear and Accessories (Part 3)

Take your running to the next level by focusing on fueling, recovery, and injury prevention! Here are some tools to get you started.

Happy Friday! I’m back with the last post about distance running gear and accessories, with today focusing mostly on fueling and injury prevention. If you missed them, you can check out parts 1 and 2 here and here.  We talked a little about running with water, but for longer training runs you may need more than a handheld. When I started training for my first marathon I invested in a Camelbak hydration pack. Not ... Read the Post...

Yesterday’s’ long run was 16 miles with 6 x 1 Yesterday’s’ long run was 16 miles with 6 x 1 mile MP/1 mile easy. I took a few hours of PTO in the morning to do this on the trail because I knew wouldn’t be able to do it this weekend. This was my first time on the trail since my marathon last November. It was nice to be back there and the perfect place to do this kind of long run. It was the kind of run where you start thinking “ok cool I just did a tough MP workout” but then you remember you actually need to run 26 miles in a row at that pace. Luckily there’s still 9 more weeks of training…although that doesn’t really sound like that much!
41 miles for the week and got in 2 strength sessions. Taking it easy this weekend other than chasing the kids around for all their activities! #run #marathontraining #longrun
It’s kind of freeing to not care about pace. It It’s kind of freeing to not care about pace. It is a little frustrating to have to plan more time for an easy run. But it’s definitely worth it to recover quicker and feel better on workout days! #run #marathongtraining #easyrun
You know marathon training is starting to get real You know marathon training is starting to get real when you start losing track of what training week it is. I had to check my calendar but this was week 6, so 10 weeks to go!

I ran the Charles Street 12 last weekend so this week was all about easy miles and recovering from the race. That went well until I went and ran all the hills yesterday followed by walking around a maze and fun park for 5 hours. I got in some strength and mobility this morning and now I’m back to focusing on recovery!

If you’re training for a race how many weeks do you have left?

15 miles, over 1,100 feet of elevation gain, and 9 15 miles, over 1,100 feet of elevation gain, and 91% humidity 🫠 Pretty sure that was harder than my race last weekend, but got it done. Now off to my second workout of the day- taking the kids to an outdoor fun park. RIP to my legs.
What are you up to this weekend?
