Runfession: I’m Cheating on my Running Shoe Brand

Mile by Mile Running

Over the years I've been very loyal to one brand of running shoes. When I hurt my foot a few years ago I tried out some different brands but nothing worked. I went back to my original shoes and figured those were the only ones what would work for me. But this year for Christmas I decided to ask for something new, and now I'm officially cheating on my running shoe brand! I'm Cheating on my Running Shoe Brand I ... Read the Post...

Base Building Week 2

Base Building Week 2 is complete! This was another low-mileage week focused on getting back into a regular running and workout routine. I did 3 runs and one was a fartlek run. Check out my post for more details about my week of training! #run #runner #training #halfmarathon #basebuilding

Base building week 2 is complete! I'm really liking this routine as it makes me feel like I am training but the work load is very low and manageable. I made sure to keep this segment easy so that I don't burn out by the time I actually get into the hard part of training. One of the challenges of spring races is training during winter weather. In fact, I would have preferred a March race (for the cooler race day ... Read the Post...

How I Stayed Consistent with Fitness for 15 Years

15 years ago I started on my fitness journey. For the first time I was able to stay consistent and create a habit that was sustainable. Click post to read about how I got started and stayed consistent with fitness for 15 years. #fitness #motivation #goals #healthyliving #runner #workouts

As I have been reading about people getting started on their fitness journeys lately it got me thinking about my own experience. At this point fitness just feels like a part of who I am. I don't need to think about "if" I am going to work out; its more about when and how. However, it wasn't always that way! I used to have long stretches with no workouts and then force myself to get back into it after awhile. It definitely ... Read the Post...

Base Building Begins

This week I started a base building period before training for a spring half-marathon. I am focusing on slowly building mileage and creating a sustainable workout routine. Click post to read about last week's workouts! #workouts #basebuilding #training #running #halfmarathon

This was my first week of base building before starting to train for a spring half-marathon. I am planning to do this base building for 4 weeks before starting to train. I think I mentioned that I have 2 race options in mind that are both in May. My preference is the earlier one on May 3rd. I keep getting E-mails with a discount code if I sign up by tomorrow night. Not sure if I'm ready to fully commit yet! More than ... Read the Post...

15 mile long run workout this morning! Honestly, e 15 mile long run workout this morning! Honestly, every step of this felt challenging, so I’m pretty happy that I still hit my paces. I’m going to blame it on the humidity. WHY is it still so warm and humid when it’s almost October 😩🥵 I made the mistake of leaving my hair in a ponytail so of course it was a tangled mess by the time I was done. When will I learn? Just glad I got this done to wrap up week 9 of @richmondmarathon training! Is it still humid where you are? #run #marathontraining #richmondmarathon #longrun
Yesterday’s’ long run was 16 miles with 6 x 1 Yesterday’s’ long run was 16 miles with 6 x 1 mile MP/1 mile easy. I took a few hours of PTO in the morning to do this on the trail because I knew wouldn’t be able to do it this weekend. This was my first time on the trail since my marathon last November. It was nice to be back there and the perfect place to do this kind of long run. It was the kind of run where you start thinking “ok cool I just did a tough MP workout” but then you remember you actually need to run 26 miles in a row at that pace. Luckily there’s still 9 more weeks of training…although that doesn’t really sound like that much!
41 miles for the week and got in 2 strength sessions. Taking it easy this weekend other than chasing the kids around for all their activities! #run #marathontraining #longrun
It’s kind of freeing to not care about pace. It It’s kind of freeing to not care about pace. It is a little frustrating to have to plan more time for an easy run. But it’s definitely worth it to recover quicker and feel better on workout days! #run #marathongtraining #easyrun
You know marathon training is starting to get real You know marathon training is starting to get real when you start losing track of what training week it is. I had to check my calendar but this was week 6, so 10 weeks to go!

I ran the Charles Street 12 last weekend so this week was all about easy miles and recovering from the race. That went well until I went and ran all the hills yesterday followed by walking around a maze and fun park for 5 hours. I got in some strength and mobility this morning and now I’m back to focusing on recovery!

If you’re training for a race how many weeks do you have left?
